Built on YouTube

The best teachers are already on YouTube.

You just can’t find them in the right order. Give OpenLobe a topic headline or a prompt in plain English — physics, quantum mechanics, business, anything — and it lines up videos from creators like these so each one builds on the last.

  • But what is a neural network? — 3Blue1Brown
  • The Strangest Implication of Quantum Mechanics — Veritasium
  • The Map of Quantum Physics — Domain of Science
  • Stoichiometry Basic Introduction — The Organic Chemistry Tutor
  • How to Get and Evaluate Startup Ideas — Y Combinator
  • Supply and Demand: Crash Course Economics #4 — CrashCourse
  • Vectors, Essence of linear algebra — 3Blue1Brown
  • How The Immune System ACTUALLY Works — Kurzgesagt
  • The Geometry of Causality — PBS Space Time
  • Derivative as a concept — Khan Academy

What’s in it

A path is more than a playlist.

The videos are the start. What makes it stick is everything wrapped around them, and all of this is in the beta right now.

  • It checks what you know first

A short diagnostic before anything is built, so the path fits you and not the average learner.

  • Videos matched to subtopics

Each module is a handful of curated videos on one subtopic, in an order that builds.

  • A quiz at the end of every module

Ace it and the path skips ahead. Struggle and the next modules get gentler.

  • Practice you actually write

Written answers, not only multiple choice, marked with feedback you can act on.

  • A tutor that knows the module

Ask about the part that didn’t click; the tutor has the module in front of it.

  • Bring your own material

Import a YouTube playlist or your own resources and OpenLobe builds the path around them.

How it works

Type a topic. The rest follows.

  1. Type a topic

A single word works. So does a full brief like “quantum mechanics, from scratch, exams in May”.

  2. Take a short diagnostic

A few quick questions so it knows where you actually are, not where a syllabus assumes you are.

  3. Work the modules

Each module is a handful of curated videos, practice questions, and an AI tutor for the parts that don’t click.

  4. It adjusts as you go

Ace a quiz and it skips ahead. Struggle and the next modules get gentler. Streaks and XP keep you honest.

Inside the beta

What it looks like from the inside.

One text box on the dashboard, your active paths under it, your streak beside them.

Native app

An iOS app is in build.

A native SwiftUI app for the beta, driven by the same backend and the phone’s own light and dark setting. No date yet; beta members hear first.

What it took.

  • A path builder that turns one line into modules, diagnostics and checkpoints
  • YouTube Data API curation with per-subtopic matching
  • A module-aware tutor with rate limits and per-message cost logging
  • Owner-scoped row-level security across paths, modules and practice
  • A JSON API the native app shares with the web app
